Cookie policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which types Spooru uses, and how you can manage your preferences.
This policy applies to the website www.spooru.com and to the areas of the platform where cookies or other similar technologies are used.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on a user's browser or device when they visit a website.
Among other functions, they allow a session to be kept active, certain preferences to be remembered and, where the user authorises it, advertising to be shown or measured.
In addition to cookies, certain services may use similar technologies, such as local storage, identifiers or technologies embedded in advertising content.
For the purposes of this Policy, the term “cookies” is used to refer collectively to these technologies where applicable.
2. What types of cookies does Spooru use?
Spooru currently uses the following categories:
2.1. Strictly necessary cookies
These are necessary for Spooru to provide certain features requested by the user.
In particular, they may be used to:
- keep a session active;
- authenticate the user;
- maintain account security;
- manage certain technical elements of the platform;
- remember certain preferences necessary for the service to function.
These cookies are not used to build advertising profiles or to deliver personalised advertising.
Since these cookies are strictly necessary to provide the service requested by the user, they do not require consent.
If the user blocks this type of cookie, certain Spooru features may stop working correctly, including the ability to log in or stay logged in.
2.2. Advertising cookies and technologies
In the areas of the portal intended for families, Spooru may show advertising provided by Google AdSense. Ads are only shown to families who do not have the “ad-free” subscription.
However, Google's consent management system and the Google AdSense script are loaded when any Spooru page is opened, including public pages and without being logged in (except for users who are logged in with an active “ad-free” subscription), so that Google can manage consent and verify the site. Where the law requires consent, it is requested through Google's consent management system before advertising technologies are activated.
Minors with their own access (players aged 16 and over) are shown only non-personalised ads, and the ad requests are flagged to Google as relating to a minor.
These technologies may use cookies, local storage or other identifiers for advertising-related functions, including, depending on the user's configuration and consent:
- displaying advertising;
- selecting advertising;
- measuring ad performance;
- limiting the frequency of certain ads;
- personalising advertising.
The technologies used and the providers that may be involved may vary depending on Google AdSense's configuration and the user's consent preferences.
Where applicable law requires consent for the use of these technologies, Spooru will request such consent before activating them.
2.3. Overview of the cookies and storage used by Spooru
The table below lists all the cookies and storage entries that Spooru itself places in the browser. Spooru does not use analytics or tracking cookies.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sb-…-auth-token (for long sessions, with endings such as .0 and .1) | Spooru (Supabase) | Keeps the login session and protects the account | up to 400 days | Cookie, strictly necessary |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Spooru | Remembers the chosen language | Session (until the browser is closed) | Cookie, strictly necessary |
| spooru-ad-last-shown-at | Spooru | Remembers when the ad was last shown in this tab so it is not repeated constantly (only families without the ad-free subscription); stays on the device and is not sent to anyone | until the tab is closed | Session Storage, local |
| spooru.installBanner.dismissedAt | Spooru | Remembers when the notice to install the app was closed | until the user deletes it | Local Storage, local |
| spooru-offline-v1 and Service Worker | Spooru | Offline page and delivery of push notifications | until updated or the app data is deleted | Cache Storage, strictly necessary |
| Google cookies and identifiers (consent management and AdSense) | Consent management; advertising, if consent was given | set by Google; details in the consent panel | Third-party cookies |
3. Personalised advertising and consent
Where Spooru uses Google AdSense to show personalised advertising to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Spooru will use a consent management mechanism compliant with Google's applicable requirements.
Google requires publishers to use a Consent Management Platform (CMP) certified by Google and integrated with the IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) when serving personalised advertising in these territories (see Google's requirements on this).
The user can accept, reject or configure their advertising preferences through the consent mechanism shown on the platform.
Rejecting personalised advertising does not necessarily mean that advertising will stop being shown. Where technically possible, non-personalised ads or advertising using only technologies permitted without consent may still be shown.
4. The “Ad-free” subscription
Families who subscribe to the “Ad-free” plan will not see the advertising spaces included in that plan.
The “ad-free” subscription removes the ad slots. While it is active and the user is logged in, Google's consent management system and script are also not loaded (the change applies from the next page that is loaded).
The “Ad-free” subscription does not necessarily mean the removal of the cookies strictly necessary for Spooru to function.
The economic and contractual terms of the subscription are set out in the Terms and Conditions.
5. First-party and third-party cookies
Cookies may be installed directly by Spooru or by third parties whose services are integrated into the platform.
First-party cookies
These are managed directly by Spooru and are mainly used to provide technical features necessary for the platform to function.
Third-party cookies
These are installed or managed by external providers.
Currently, the main third-party service used for advertising is Google AdSense.
Google may use its own technologies and those of other advertising technology providers involved in providing the service.
The identity of the providers may vary depending on the advertising configuration and consent preferences.
Other external services
For the following services Spooru does not install its own cookies, but the page connects to them when they are used: Stripe (card payment takes place on a page hosted by Stripe, where Stripe's cookies and policies apply) and OpenStreetMap (maps and address search load images and data from their servers, which receive the IP address). Any cookies these services may install are governed by their own terms.
6. Google AdSense
Spooru uses Google AdSense in certain areas of the family portal.
Google may process information obtained through cookies, identifiers or other technologies for advertising-related purposes.
The use of these technologies and Google's processing of data are also subject to Google's policies and terms.
You can review the information provided by Google on advertising and privacy in its own resources, and manage your personalised ad preferences at Google Ad Settings.
Spooru does not directly control the processing that Google carries out as an independent controller for its own services and purposes.
Where processing requires consent, Spooru will use the appropriate mechanism to obtain it before allowing processing subject to consent.
7. Do we use analytics cookies?
Currently, Spooru does not use its own web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to generally analyse users' browsing activity.
If analytics tools or other technologies requiring consent are introduced in the future, this Policy will be updated and, where necessary, the corresponding consent will be requested before they are used.
8. How can you manage your preferences?
Where Spooru uses cookies or technologies requiring consent, you will be able to manage your preferences through the consent management mechanism available on the platform.
You will be able to accept or reject cookie categories that are not strictly necessary and, where applicable, subsequently change your preferences.
You can also configure or delete cookies through your browser settings.
Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent some Spooru features from working correctly.
Browser settings do not necessarily replace Spooru's consent management mechanism for advertising technologies.
9. What happens if I reject advertising cookies?
Rejecting the cookies or technologies used to personalise advertising does not necessarily mean that ads will stop being shown.
Depending on the configuration available in Google AdSense, non-personalised ads or other forms of advertising that can lawfully be used without the technologies for which consent was refused may still be shown.
By contrast, where the user has the “Ad-free” subscription, the advertising spaces included in that plan will stop being shown.
10. Cookie duration
Cookies can be:
- session cookies, which are deleted when the session ends or the browser is closed, depending on their configuration;
- persistent cookies, which remain for a set period before being automatically deleted.
The duration of the cookies and storage entries that Spooru itself uses is shown in the table in section 2.3. The specific duration of third-party cookies may depend on the relevant provider's configuration and may change over time.
Where technically possible, detailed information on cookies and their duration will be shown in the consent management panel.
11. Updates to this Cookie Policy
Spooru may update this Cookie Policy when changes occur in:
- the cookies and technologies used;
- the providers;
- the platform's features;
- applicable legislation;
- the criteria of data protection authorities;
- the policies of technology providers.
The version in force will always be available on this page.
Where a change requires the user's consent to be obtained again, Spooru will implement the appropriate mechanism.
12. Further information
The processing of personal data carried out through cookies or other technologies may also be subject to Spooru's Privacy Policy.
