Youth football methodology guides
These guides summarise the methodology Spooru uses to build season plans: what to work on at each age, with which game formats, and how to organise the season and the week. They are a practical reference for youth coaches and coordinators.
Principles shared by every stage
- Every session has a main objective, but none is single-topic: warm-up, main part and transfer to real match play.
- The younger the category, the more weight play, the ball, coordination and 1v1 carry.
- Tasks move from light opposition to real opposition, and from simple decisions to decisions in context.
- Small-sided formats take priority in youth football because they multiply every player's involvements.
- The match feeds the assessment, and the assessment adjusts the following week.
- Real level and maturation can adjust the complexity relative to chronological age.
