Players
6–12
Duration
10 min
Space
Lanes of 10 × 6 m
Equipment
1 ball per pair, 4 cones

How it works

Two cones form a single 3 m gate at the far end; two cones mark the start. Blue attacker with the ball and an orange defender beside them, one step back.

The attacker dribbles towards the single gate. The defender accompanies walking without touching the ball and may only take one side step halfway; the attacker keeps the direction and goes through the gate.

Variations and progressions

  • Level 1: announced side step and a 3 m gate.
  • Level 2: announced side step but a 2 m gate, without increasing the pressure.
  • U5-U7: 3 m gate and defender at 2 m.
  • U8-U11: 2.5 m gate and defender one step back.
  • Minimal opposition, no tackling.

Coaching tips

  • Gate in sight.
  • Ball close.
  • One touch after the side step.
  • The defender avoids contact.
