6-8 cones, 1 ball per player

How it works

Players line up with a ball.

They dribble the ball following the route between cones.

They perform changes of direction (right and left) using the inside and outside of the foot.

They maintain ball control at all times.

They return walking or running along the sideline and pass the ball to the next player.

Variations and progressions

  • Increase or decrease the distance between cones.
  • Perform the course only with the weaker foot.
  • Add a change of pace after each change of direction.
  • Incorporate different types of direction change (e.g. 180° turn).
  • Conduct a competition by time or in relays.

Coaching tips

  • Keep the head up and look ahead.
  • Use short and controlled touches.
  • Slightly flex the knees and lower the center of gravity.
  • Use both feet and vary the contact surface.
  • Encourage players to be precise, not just fast.
